The Self Care Movement

I see it everyday – a reminder to practice self-care. A bath with a colorful bath bomb, a face mask, getting your hair or nails done, a glass of wine… great, right?

Some days, I feel like I am the only one that doesn’t feel that self-care magic when I attempt these tried and true tasks. Is it nice to feel nice and pretty? Of course. But does it relieve the overwhelm or emotional/physical pains I may be dealing with at the time? Not usually…at least for me.

Don’t get me wrong, if these work for you, get it girl! However, if you are like me, your self care might not look like the status quo. It might look like finally getting 10 minutes alone to take a shower for the first time all week. Or putting the baby in a carrier or stroller and going for a walk to get some fresh air.

For many, an important part of self care is talking to a therapist (or your doctor, doula, or friend) regularly. Or requesting outside help, because it’s hard to keep up with it all PLUS the endless list of chores that need to be done.

However self-care looks for you, this is your reminder to take some time for yourself today, guilt-free. It doesn’t necessarily have to be alone, although maybe that’s what you want/NEED today. You decide. Only you know exactly what it is that you need to help you feel rejuvenated. You deserve that.

If nothing else? Close your eyes, take a deep breathe, and repeat after me: I am strong, I am a great person, I am making a difference, and I am important.

You matter, okay?

With love,

Your doula
